Mirror Image Acupuncture

Mirror image acupuncture is a technique that can be used to treat pain in one area of the body by performing an acupuncture treatment to a different area of the body. For example, if a person has a complaint of neck pain, different acupuncture points can be treated on the wrist or ankles to help eliminate the pain in the neck region. Lower back pain or other pain in the body can also be treated this way.

I recently had a patient who was having left knee pain and by treating tender points in the right elbow I was able to eliminate the pain in the knee. This is just one way that acupuncture can be used effectively. This is also very helpful when pain is more severe in an area and would be too sensitive for direct treatment. This method can achieve the desired affect without even working in the area of pain.
