Skiing and Snowboarding Neck Pain

I've written about neck and back pain before, talking about whiplash and what can be done to treat it. In this article I want to address snowboarding, skiing and other winter sports such as ice skating and innertubing that can lead to neck and back stiffness or even whiplash.

Waking up with a Stiff Neck?

In previous articles I have talked about whiplash and other injuries that can cause neck and back pain. Even with regular weekly chiropractic treatments and posture aids, advanced injuries and old age can leave you feeling tight and sore first thing in the morning. It's not a great way to wake up by any standard... Mattress companies have latched on to this fact and spend millions each year advertising their solution.

Treating Neck and Back Whiplash with Traction and Chiropractic Care

Every year in the United States there are over six million car accidents. Add to that boating, ATV's, motorcycles and other moving vehicles such as rollercoasters and you wind up with millions of cases of whiplash. Sometimes people don't even know they have it, rollercoasters are a great example of this - many people just assume they are a bit stiff but underneath real damage has been done.

Chinese Pulse Diagnosis Part II

There are certain characteristics of a person's pulse that can reveal conditions of their health and wellbeing. These characteristics may be subtle but there are basic signs that anyone can identify, treatment is more advanced and you should consult an expert physician.

A strong or pounding pulse suggests an excess of heat in the body. When there is a heat condition present the arteries tend to swell and feel wider, jump harder, or seem stronger externally. A deficiency condition tends to display symptoms of weaker pulse which may feel softer. This condition can feel less broad and may even disappear with external physical pressure. In the case of a deficiency condition, a patient may experience increased fatigue and an overall cold or chill of the body.

Chinese Pulse Diagnosis

Last weekend I was able to get additional training on how to use Chinese pulse diagnosis in my practice. The pulse diagnosis is an accurate way to gain knowledge about imbalances that may be present with a patient and what to do about it. Each arm is used to obtain this information.

Different positions on the radial pulse are examined and give information about the upper, middle, and lower body. The meridians and functions associated with these areas include the lungs, large intestines, digestive system, and urinary function on the right arm and the heart, small intestines, liver, gallbladder and Chinese kidney functions on the left arm.

Start the New Year with a Healthy Body

New Years is often a time of reflection spent thinking of the future and planning to better yourself. Why not make regular chiropractic and acupuncture treatments part of your plan for better health in the new year? It's never too late to start improving your health and feeling better.

Improved health can help you tackle each new year's challenges by relieving stress and pain. For some it may be the first step to overcoming an addiction, for others it may just be a matter of making the fun parts bof everyday life even more satisfying.

Whether you're a golfer, hiker, or just someone who is getting ready to take down the holiday lights and Christmas tree or other holiday decorations, you could probably use a chiropractic adjustment and massage to get ready for spring.

Mirror Image Acupuncture

Mirror image acupuncture is a technique that can be used to treat pain in one area of the body by performing an acupuncture treatment to a different area of the body. For example, if a person has a complaint of neck pain, different acupuncture points can be treated on the wrist or ankles to help eliminate the pain in the neck region. Lower back pain or other pain in the body can also be treated this way.
