Waking up with a Stiff Neck?

By admin - Posted on 22 May 2009

In previous articles I have talked about whiplash and other injuries that can cause neck and back pain. Even with regular weekly chiropractic treatments and posture aids, advanced injuries and old age can leave you feeling tight and sore first thing in the morning. It's not a great way to wake up by any standard... Mattress companies have latched on to this fact and spend millions each year advertising their solution.

It's worth noting that having a good mattress can make a difference, but that's not the only, or least expensive solution. Of course I recommend visiting your chiropractor, but there are other solutions as well. Did you know that many physicians recommend replacing pillows every few months? It seems like a waste to replace a pillow that often but there are other ways to keep your pillow longer and still enjoy the benefits of waking up with a relaxed neck. There are special pillows made that have a jellybean look to them with a trough in the middle and firmer rolls on the lower and higher edges. These pillows are sometimes called Cervical Contour Pillows or. Side Pillows. This type of pillow is usually made with memory foam which lasts longer than traditional feather pillows and certainly improves sleeping posture. For a less expensive option you may consider rolling up a small towel and stuffing it into one edge of your pillow to help support the natural curve of your neck. If you come by the office I can help you identify the best solution for your needs and direct you to reputible providers.

I am sharing these options to help those who may be looking to cure or address a stiff neck but the best advice I can give is to come in and get a checkup. I will be able to help identify the cause of your pain and correct it in a preventitive proactive way verses responding with a reactive product. Our new patient special is just $19.95 and includes an adjustment so stop on by and mention this article so I can help treat your pain.
